What is Huggs Vault? A simple guide

ยท 4 min read

Most of us carry words we never quite say. "I'm proud of you." "I'm sorry." "Thank you for everything." Huggs Vault gives those words a safe place to wait, so they still reach the people they're meant for.

The idea in one sentence

You write letters, record voice notes and save photos for the people you love. Huggs Vault keeps them sealed, and only sends them if one day you stop checking in.

As long as you keep checking in, nothing is sent. Your messages simply wait, private and locked.

What you can save

Each message has its own recipients. A letter can be just for your daughter, and a voice note just for your mother.

How it works, in three steps

  1. Seal your messages. Write, record or attach, then choose who each message is for. Everything is locked with your own passphrase before it's saved.
  2. Check in, your way. Tap the heart in the app. You choose how often: daily, weekly, every two weeks or monthly.
  3. If you go quiet, we deliver. Miss a check-in and you get reminders first, then a final warning. The people you trust are asked if you're okay. Only after all that are your messages emailed to the people you chose.

We wrote a whole article on this part: how check-ins work, and why nothing goes out by mistake.

Who it's for

Huggs Vault is for anyone who has something they want the people they love to hear. We built it with a few people in mind:

Your messages stay private

Your messages are encrypted on your phone before they leave it, with a passphrase only you know. They're kept in your own Google Drive, not on our servers. We can't read them. You can read more in how Huggs Vault keeps your messages private.

What Huggs Vault is not

Huggs Vault is for personal messages. It is not a legal will and it doesn't replace one. If you have a will, you can save a photo of it and a note saying where the original is kept, but the will itself still needs to follow the law where you live.

Pick a look that feels like you

The app comes in three styles. Pastel Pip is soft and gentle, with Pip the owl keeping you company. Bio HUD looks like a spy movie, with a fingerprint-style scan and a heart monitor. Classic is calm navy and gold. The safety is the same in all three.

When can I try it?

We're starting testing on Android, and iPhone comes after. If you'd like to be one of the first, leave your email here. It takes 10 seconds.
