Terms of use
Last updated: October 14, 2026
The short version
- Huggs Vault is a keepsake app for personal messages. It is not a legal will and doesn't replace one.
- We do our best to deliver your messages, but we can't guarantee every message will arrive.
- Keep your passphrase safe. We can't read your messages, so we can't recover it for you.
- Be kind: only add people you know, and don't use Huggs Vault to hurt anyone.
These terms are an agreement between you and Huggs Vault ("we", "us"), a Huggs app made in the Philippines. By creating an account or using the Huggs Vault app or huggsvault.com, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Huggs Vault.
1. What Huggs Vault is (and isn't)
Huggs Vault lets you save letters, voice and video messages, photos and documents, and have them delivered to people you choose if you stop checking in for a period you set.
Huggs Vault is not a will, a legal document, or a substitute for legal, financial, medical or estate-planning advice. Nothing you save in Huggs Vault transfers ownership of property or has legal effect. If you need a will, please talk to a lawyer. In the Philippines, for example, a will must meet specific legal formalities.
Huggs Vault is also not an emergency service. Please don't rely on it to get help in an emergency.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old to use Huggs Vault.
- You sign in with your Google account. Keep that account secure. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
- Give us accurate contact details for yourself, your recipients and your confirmers, and keep them up to date.
3. Your messages and your passphrase
- Your messages are encrypted on your device with a passphrase you choose. We cannot read your messages and cannot recover a lost passphrase. If the passphrase is lost, the messages can't be opened by anyone, including us.
- It's up to you to share the passphrase (or a hint) with your recipients in a way that works for you.
- Larger files are stored in your own Google Drive. If you delete them there, or remove Huggs Vault's access to your Drive, they can't be delivered.
- You keep all rights to what you create. You give us only the permission we need to store, process and deliver your content as you instruct.
4. How delivery works, and its limits
When you miss check-ins, we remind you. If your release time passes without a check-in (and no trusted confirmer says you're OK), we email your recipients a private link. Please understand that:
- a missed check-in can happen for reasons other than you being unavailable, such as a lost phone or a busy time. Use reminders, absence mode and trusted confirmers to avoid surprises;
- emails can be filtered as spam, addresses can change, and links can expire, so we can't guarantee that a recipient will receive or open your messages;
- a trusted confirmer can reset your timer. Choose people you trust;
- once messages are delivered, they can't be "un-sent".
5. Be kind: acceptable use
Please don't use Huggs Vault to:
- break the law, or store or send illegal content;
- harass, threaten, stalk or frighten anyone, or send messages intended to cause harm;
- add people as recipients or confirmers without a good reason, or pretend to be someone else;
- send spam, malware, or anything that infringes someone else's rights;
- interfere with or try to break the service or its security.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and we may stop sending emails to people who ask us not to contact them.
6. The service
- Huggs Vault is currently free and in early testing. Features may change, and we may add paid features in the future. We'll tell you before anything you use starts costing money.
- We work hard to keep Huggs Vault running, but it may sometimes be unavailable. If we ever decide to shut it down, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email when possible, so you can make other plans.
- Huggs Vault depends on services such as Google, our email provider and app stores. Their outages or policy changes can affect Huggs Vault.
7. Ending your account
You can stop using Huggs Vault and delete your account at any time. See Delete my account. We may close an account that breaks these terms, or that has been released and inactive for a long time, after trying to let you know.
8. Disclaimers and limits of liability
Huggs Vault is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every message will be delivered. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for any loss caused by a lost passphrase, an undelivered or wrongly delivered message, or a third-party service. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (currently nothing, since Huggs Vault is free). Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the "Last updated" date above, and if the changes are important we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using Huggs Vault after that, you accept the new terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines. We'd always rather sort things out by talking, so please contact us first.
